New SMART General Manager hired

According to the Detroit Free Press:

The board of trustees for the Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation, better known as SMART, voted unanimously Tuesday to hire Hayes Jones as the new general manager. The 68-year-old Pontiac resident will replace Dan Dirks, who has held the job for the last nine years and who will retire June 30.

Jones has a variety of experience including jobs as: a Detroit teacher, an executive with American Airlines and Stroh’s Brewery, and an administrator in New York City. He also was the director for community and economic development in Oakland County.

According to Crain’s Detroit Business:

Also approved this week by the board was the appointment of Steven Brown to the vacant position of deputy general manager. Brown is the current director of administration-public health for Wayne County, the part-time mayor of Lincoln Park and a former SMART board member.

Brown will have to vacate those duties to assume the SMART management post, SMART officials said.
