Michigan releases long-range transportation plans

MI Transportation Plan LogoFor about two years, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has been working on a long-range transportation plan.  They held numerous public meetings and considered numerous drafts.  The final report is out, entitled the MI Transportation Plan: Moving Michigan Forward, the State Long-Range Transportation Plan 2005-2030.

We at TRU are concerned that it does not make a sufficient commitment to public transit, especially considering the overwhelming public outcry for more and better transit.  It may be a step forward from previous plans which focused almost exclusively on highways, but the state has a long way to go if they really want transportation choices and all the benefits transit can bring.

You can view the plan and the public’s comments at the MDOT website and download TRU’s comments here.
