Mark your Calendars: Detroit Mayoral Forum on Transit Set for June 4

2025 is a critically important election year in the City of Detroit. For the first time in 12 years, the name Mike Duggan will not be on the ballot, and the race for Mayor is wide open, with over half a dozen candidates in the running. The entire City Council is up for reelection as well.

As a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit, TRU does not endorse or oppose candidates for office. However, we believe better public transit is crucial to the future of the city, and it’s vital for voters to understand where candidates stand on the issue.

On the evening of Wednesday, June 4, at 6 pm, TRU is hosting a mayoral candidate forum on public transit. Registration will open shortly, but for now, please mark your calendars! The event will take place at the Wayne State Industry Innovation Center in the New Center area, across the street from TRU’s office in TechTown. (You may know it as the typical site for TRU’s annual State of Transit events.)

We’re joined in hosting this event by Detroit Disability Power, MOSES, and EmpowerYOU! Financial Solutions. ASL sign language interpretation will be provided, and please let Joel know at joel [at] DetroitTransit.org if you need any other accommodations.

In addition to the forum, TRU will be sending a survey about transit to all City Council and Mayoral candidates – look for that to be released around the same time.
