Countywide bus service fails in Oakland Commission vote

The Oakland County Commission’s General Government Committee voted today on a measure that would have allowed all of Oakland County to vote on a countywide SMART bus millage and countywide service.  Unfortunately the vote was tied 6-6 which was not enough to advance it to the full Commission.

Sponsors Steve Schwartz (D-Farmington) and Dave Potts (R-Bloomfield) were joined by all the Democrats in supporting the proposal.  No other Republicans joined Commissioner Potts in supporting it.  (Despite a 13-12 division in the Commission, the Committee has 7 Republicans and just 5 Democrats.)

All is not necessarily lost, because with the support of Commissioner Potts, a majority of the full Commission supports the measure.  Commissioner Schwartz is still seeking a way to bring it before the full Commission for a vote.

Thanks for all of your calls and emails so far.  Stay tuned for more!!
