Last week, Commissioner Steve Schwartz (D-Farmington), with support from Commissioner Dave Potts (R-Bloomfield), introduced a resolution to enable SMART bus service and millage throughout Oakland County, eliminating inefficient opt-outs. If you live in OC, please thank these two leaders and encourage your commissioner to support this!!

Regional authority cooperation near?

If Crain’s has the story right, "the elected executives of Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties and Detroit Mayor Dave Bing could meet in October to sign off on the wording of legislation that would establish a regional mass transit authority." Let’s keep fingers crossed and pressure on the big four!!

New electric buses to be built in Michigan!

Fisher Coachworks, of Oak Park, recently announced that Flint’s transit agency will be buying two all-electric, plug-in hybrid buses from Fisher using federal stimulus grants. The new buses will be deployed in 2010 and are expected to be the most energy and emissions efficient mass transit bus in the market.
