With the closure of I-75 and I-94 starting today due to MDOT’s Ambassador Bridge Gateway Project, there are important bus service changes in southwest Detroit and downriver.
The Gateway Express is a new commuter bus service operated by DDOT and SMART, providing an alternative transportation option during I-75’s closure. The new route travels along Michigan’s first High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane and links downriver commuters to downtown Detroit during peak weekday hours (6-9am and 3-6pm). Gateway Express will pick up commuters at three Park & Ride lots: Gibraltar Trade Center, Faith Christian Church in Melvindale, at the corner of Allen Road and Outer Drive in Melvindale.
As a special promotion, you can ride the Gateway Express for FREE, this week only, Monday, February 25 through Friday, February 29. After the first week, passengers will pay the regular express bus fare of $2.00 (or 50-cents with a DDOT or SMART pass).
For more information on Gateway Express bus service, contact SMART (866-962-5515) or DDOT (313-933-1300). Learn more about I-75’s closing and the Ambassador Bridge Gateway Project at MDOT.
