Leaders in Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County have been doing great work on providing transportation choices focused on sustainability. The Washtenaw Area Transportation Study (the multi-jurisdictional agency responsible for transportation planning in Washtenaw County) created Sustainable Washtenaw Transportation , focused on:
- Maximizing alternatives to single-occupant vehicle travel;
- Consideration of land use strategies in concert with transportation systems;
- Subjecting all investments to a comparative mobility and access evaluation;
- Coordination among partners; and
- Strategic investments for maintaining key roadway systems as part of a multi-modal system.
They also created a great presentation explaining Sustainable Washtenaw Transportation, highlighting the connections between transportation and land use and the great potential of transit-oriented development. Check it out!
