MDOT seeks comments on 5-year plan

The public can submit comments until Friday, Dec 11, on the Michigan Department of Transportation's plans for major roadwork statewide through 2014.

Each year, MDOT puts out its latest 5-year roadwork plan, updating projects for the final year of each plan. A draft of the current plan is at www.michigan.gov/mdot5yearplan. It includes engineering reports advancing two major road widening projects:

Widening 6.7 miles of I-94 to eight lanes from I-96 to Connor Avenue in Wayne County, plus reconstructing 67 bridges over I-94, and reconstructing and modernizing two freeway-to-freeway interchanges with I-75 and M-10. An engineering report will be completed in 2010.

Widening I-75 to eight lanes from 8 Mile to M-59 in Oakland County. The selected alternative includes the addition of one lane in each direction, designated a high occupancy vehicle lane during the peak hours and a general-purpose lane during the remaining hours. The engineering reports will be completed in 2010.
